I live in a country where parents and teachers expect a lot of autonomy from kids, and do not swoop in or hover nearly as much as I've seen back home. Very different cultural sense, and more similar to how things were when I was a kid. Thanks for the link to the Newsweek article - going to check it out now.Christine @ Origami Mommyhttp://www.origamimommy.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220008146403489286.post-5830561891902810552010-10-11T16:52:02.507-07:002010-10-11T16:52:02.507-07:00On my son's last report card, written by the &...On my son's last report card, written by the "art" teacher: "does not follow directions". Well Hallelujah and pass the glue stick! I'm raising that boy up right! He draws things as he sees them, and refuses to make "lollipop trees".Hollynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220008146403489286.post-32357261701349020522010-09-24T11:44:04.898-07:002010-09-24T11:44:04.898-07:00yes! i used models waaaay back in the day but now,...yes! i used models waaaay back in the day but now, never! aack! i walked into a preschool the other day and became very sad when i saw the "art" on the walls. at least it shows a child can follow instructions. sigh.j. wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05123562404940030878noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220008146403489286.post-57575601324907749342010-09-24T11:26:25.993-07:002010-09-24T11:26:25.993-07:00at library craft time, i would always have an exam...at library craft time, i would always have an example ready for reference. the idea was that the kiddos and parents would look at it and say "oh look...we are making a pig (or whatever)" but then the parents would take great care to reproduce the exact copy of the example. a girl would ask, Ms. Bobbie, where does the tail go? i would get great glares when i told them, where do you want it to be, or if you had a tail, where would you like it to be. now, i never, never post examples, in the hope that the kids can actually create what they see.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01572695378617830641noreply@blogger.com
