We've been studying weather at the preschool. To add a little fun, I whipped up some weather influenced pillows to add to this week's outdoor reading corner. I thought the rainbow would be the most popular but it turns out the lightening bolt was a zinger!
I used the fabric I had on hand and drew up some paper templates on large sheets of white paper I taped together. I stitched up smaller sheets of fabric to create larger sheets to fit the templates. Pieces were layered right-sides in and then stitched all the way around save for a three inch channel that allowed me to turn the whole thing right-side out and stuff. I then hand-stitched the opening shut after lightly stuffing with poly-fiberfill. The rainbow was a whole other process, I 'll post that soon. Happy weather!

make a happy rainbow to hang!
This is actually a happy garland the grown-up will need to assemble unless you go the staple route which kiddos LOVE. The measuring, folding and painting parts can all be done by your child. The DIY can be found at scrumdillydilly.

Holiday Fun: Edible Memory Game
I was hopping around the internet this morning when I came across this happy, lovely round up on Tatertots & Jello. I thought to myself "how brilliant!" and immediately clicked on over to Shindig Parties To Go to see that what I thought was an edible memory game was really a bunch of happy in a jar (which is also pretty nifty). So...taking a cue I thought "why not?" and so I present to you an edible memory game, perfect for Hanukkah, Christmas and most any other holiday.
Count out an even number of coins and punch out paper bits. I had 24 coins so needed 12 different prints of paper.
Smother paper bits with glue stick and place one each onto a chocolate coin or candy. You can also print out your own designs on round sticky labels or use happy holiday stickers.
Flip over and play a coupe of rounds. Save this for a party and the kiddos can keep the candy they "win". Candies can be stashed into handmade bags like these! Happy Holidays!
Materials
*1 bag of wrapped flat bottomed candies (like Kisses or Patties or Hanukkah Coins)
*Printable sheet from Shindig Parties To Go, round stickers, labels or a handy decorative punch
*assorted paper for decorative punch
Dump out bag of candies. I used world coins from here. They are nice and flat and perfect for my scalloped paper punch. Count out an even number of coins and punch out paper bits. I had 24 coins so needed 12 different prints of paper.

ikea hack: valentine's day scarves

Check this out! One Polarvide throw can make 15 scarves for your wee one to give to his or her classmates! Simply fold in half, pin and cut.
You can leave them as they are with a sweet note or cut extra hearts out of the ends. If your tot is handy with a needle and thread, they can embroider a small heart or stitch on a monster face to make love monster scarves. Oh the possibilities!
At $3.49 I think this may be the best deal ever, plus it's useful and the throw also comes in a super nifty green!
**this is what Za is giving to her classmates. We kinda wished we had a class full of Valentines to give them to as well!
